Five Koi Swimming

Piece description from the artist

The painting features five koi fish swimming gracefully amongst lily pads in a pond. The tranquil scene is enhanced by rich, deep colors and textures. It was inspired by the fish living at the Boise Train Depot reflecting pool.

About Ruth Hayes

Spencer, IN

Ruth Hayes is a primarily self-taught artist who has been living in rural south central Indiana for over 40 years. Although she has a BA in Biology and a MS in Animal Behavior, she turned to creating her own art many years ago in her home studio instead.

Ruth carries a camera wherever she goes to photograph ordinary sights and scenes around the US and then brings them back to uniquely reinterpret them in a wide variety of media, determined by how the subject matter speaks to her. In her studio, you might find architectural art, portraits, and landscape works done in pen and ink, pastel, watercolors and acrylics, usually in a realistic style.

Ruth has exhibited in juried shows, had a piece on the cover of "English Teaching Forum" from the US Department of State, and been the cover art for the publicity of a juried art exhibition.
