Fire in the Sky

Piece description from the artist

I found this incredible maple tree in the Midwest, tucked away on a quiet Illinois road, and I had to bring out my camera! The entire canopy was glowing with reds, oranges, and yellows stacked in layers like stained glass lit from within. I positioned myself underneath the branches so the sun could sparkle through, and for a moment it felt like standing inside autumn itself.

What I love most about this photograph is the sense of wonder it brings. Every time I look at it, I’m reminded that nature doesn’t hold back, and when it decides to show off, it really shows off. Having this on the wall feels like an instant burst of energy and warmth, the kind of color that lifts your mood and invites you to pause, breathe, and take in something beautiful.

About Jerred Zegelis

Omaha, NE

Jerred Zegelis was a public high school teacher for almost 20 years before becoming a full-time artist, using a camera as his primary means of expression. Zegelis infuses his love of the natural world into his photography, specifically thinking of the ways local artists interact with the world around them. He does not focus on mountains or oceans, large cities and tropical paradises and instead turns his lens toward the common dirt roads, prairies and open skies of the midwest. He has worked on many large-scale photography projects with another healthcare photographer, and making high-resolution imagery is his primary focus now for large spaces.
