Piece description from the artist
This painting was a step on a journey of exploration. When working with paint, its diverse dilutions, transparencies, viscosities and often unruly movement, I explore the push-pull of control and letting go. I chose a more neutral palette for this piece and added metallic accents in gold and copper for art that's subtle but shines.
Lauren Marie Brank is a multidisciplinary and mixed-media artist. She once created photorealistic portraits in colored pencil and expressive, colorful portraits in acrylic. After a long hiatus, Lauren returned to art with new intentions. Her practice has since transformed to creating gestural, textured paintings using primarily acrylic and thread. This work references both of her grandmothers — one who paints, and one who sews — with introspection and abstraction in the process. When working with paint, its diverse dilutions, transparencies, viscosities and often unruly movement, Lauren explores the push-pull of control and letting go. Learning to focus on the process, while honoring the product, has been a healing journey of working through intense self-doubt and trusting her intuition. In addition to painting, Lauren also enjoys photography, ceramics, and collage.
