Dust Devil Near Utah Arizona Border

Piece description from the artist

Dust Devil at Forrest Gump Point in Mexican Hat, Utah

From the iconic Forrest Gump Point along US Highway 163 in Mexican Hat, Utah, a swirling dust devil dances across the desert landscape in front of a striking mesa outcropping. A fence runs along the landscape. This common wind phenomenon, formed by heated air and gusting winds, spins like a miniature tornado, usually harmless but occasionally strong enough to pose a threat. Near the Utah–Arizona border, the scene combines rugged red rock terrain with the motion of the dust devil, set beneath a sky dotted with soft, billowing cumulus clouds. The result is a dynamic and uniquely Southwestern moment at one of the most photographed viewpoints in the American Southwest.
