Piece description from the artist
This photograph captures an expansive post sunset view that stretches across the Petrified Dunes and toward the La Sal Mountains as dusk settles over Arches National Park near Moab, Utah, USA. The bold orange and rust-colored hills glow softly in the fading light, revealing the ancient petrified sand dunes, formed when prehistoric dunes hardened into stone beneath layers of sediment that later eroded away. Subtle shadows and blue sky tones add depth to the rugged desert terrain.
In the distance, the La Sal Mountains rise above the red rock landscape, their high peaks still holding patches of lingering snow. This striking contrast between alpine mountains and desert formations highlights one of the most unique landscapes in the American Southwest. Located just outside Moab, Arches National Park offers iconic views like this, making it a top destination for landscape photography, geology enthusiasts, and travelers exploring Utah’s red rock country and the dramatic beauty of the La Sal Mountains.
