Piece description from the artist
This image was shot at a park in Berkeley, CA. The site of today's City of Berkeley was the territory of the Chochenyo/Huchiun band of the Ohlone people when the first Europeans arrived.
Kelly Nicolaisen crosses boundaries as she composes the world into a colorful still life. Her style playfully blurs the line between portrait and landscape. The figures that she photographs become characters in the fantasy of their surroundings. Her bold hues and attention to space make for striking compositions that turn everyday life into a surreal experience. Captivated by the strangeness of reality she is inspired to perpetuate humor with her camera in her own voice.
Kelly Nicolaisen lives in San Francisco, where she draws on the city's vast wealth of inspiration. She received a B.A. from the Academy of Art University there and she also holds an associates degree in marketing and advertising.
