Dory in sepia

Dory in Sepia

Piece description from the artist

As a kid growing up in New England, I had a dory and was part of a mossing crew. Some of he hardest work I've ever done and I wouldn't have missed it for anything! This is my allegorical salute to a dying industry!

About David Hunt

Cincinnati, OH

Born in southern California, David Hunt spent most of his formative years traveling; he and his family lived in the Philippine Islands, China, Japan and the Pacific Rim. He spent time working as a deckhand on a charter sailboat along the Atlantic coast of the United States and the Caribbean, while the rocky coast of Maine and the deserted Leeward Islands also became a part of his visual language.

While studying design at the University of Cincinnati, Dave had the opportunity to work with artists like "Robert Fabe":http://www.askart.com/askart/f/robert_fabe/robert_fabe.aspx, "Phil Foster":http://digproj.libraries.uc.edu:8180/luna/servlet/univcincin~34~34 and "Reginald Grooms":http://www.askart.com/askart/g/reginald_leslie_grooms/reginald_leslie_grooms.aspx. His experience with these artists marked the beginning of his painting career.

Though he has worked with oil paints and watercolor in the past, Dave is currently working with acrylic paints. His style is very illustrative, emulating the works of "N.C. Wyeth":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N.C.Wyeth, "Bernie Fuchs":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernie_Fuchs and "Mark English":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_English, often using the mark-making style and mood of his mentor, "Robert Fabe":http://maryrangallery.com/artists/robertfabe.
