Desert Flowers On Edge Grand Staircase Escalante

Some flowers grow near the cliff edge at Calf Creek Viewpoint in Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument. I captured this photograph along Scenic Byway 12 in Boulder, Utah. The yellow wildflowers almost blend into the creamy yellow sandstone slickrock landscape this is almost otherworldly. Colorful layers of Flowing slickrock slopes, and mounds draw the eye across the vast Southern Utah terrain, emphasizing the immense scale of the scene.

Just over the edge, you can see a tall, sheer cliff wall rises prominently from the valley floor, adding drama and contrast to the softer rolling forms of the surrounding landscape. Scattered juniper trees and hardy desert shrubs introduce subtle touches of green, highlighting the resilience of life in the high desert. Above, there is a blue sky accented by soft, drifting clouds. The scene captures the remote, rugged spirit of the American Southwest.
