Location: Rattlesnake Lake – North Bend, WA – 2022
Stepping onto the shores of Rattlesnake Lake, one is immediately drawn to a singular presence, a tree that seems to defy the ordinary. On a chilly, fog-laden winter day, its silhouette emerged with unparalleled prominence. Its branches extended skyward like intricate nerve endings reaching into the very heart of the atmosphere. This captivating interplay between the tree and its surroundings compelled me to compose this image.
In its complexity lies a remarkable simplicity—an essence of life that transcends the ordinary. I've chosen to name this image 'Dendron Solus,' drawing inspiration from the term 'Dendron,' which refers to the delicate projections of nerve cells, dendrites, that transmit impulses from synapses to the cell body. The body to me, is the land and sky.
In 'Dendron Solus,' I hope to capture the essence of this solitary tree as it gracefully conducts its existence within the grand tapestry of Rattlesnake Lake's landscape.
