Piece description from the artist
A desert photograph I captured in Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument in Boulder, Utah, where a weathered dead tree rises from the center of a juniper bush in the foreground. The contrast between the lifeless wood and the living greenery creates a powerful focal point, symbolizing resilience and the passage of time in the high desert.
Beyond the foreground, a sweeping sandstone valley stretches into the distance, with smooth, cream-colored rock formations layered across the landscape. Scattered juniper trees dot the valley floor, while a wide blue sky overhead completes the scene. The combination of strong foreground detail and expansive background highlights the depth, scale, and quiet beauty of southern Utah’s desert wilderness.
