Piece description from the artist
I consider myself to be working in Contemporary and Expressionist styles. As an artist I am paying homage to an Impressionist Era. Painting figuratively, primarily representational with abstract color fields, I see my work as a mixture of metaphor and experience. This is a portrait of the artist William De Kooning.
Try Serino's work confronts the fundamentally opposing ideas of experience and metaphor. Conceptual relationships between color and value influence her work.
Try works with a variety of materials, including gesso, acrylic mediums, charcoal, and photographs. Adding layers of pigment to build up the image, she attempts to illustrate the sometimes-darker beauty hidden in each work.
