Day or Night??

Piece description from the artist

This photo was an un-expected surprise. In January 2017 I traveled with some friends to Kauai for the first time. I immediately fell in love with the Garden Isle. The lush landscape was always what I had imagined the islands to be.

While staying on the North Shore of the Island near Hanalei Bay, we ventured out to the beach on night after dinner. It was a clear night and the moon was just beginning to rise in the sky.

What is special to me about this shot is that it is a single exposure. I have seen photographs like this but they have been blended together in post. Using long exposure and the moon to my back I was able to get the stars and the landscape in on exposure. The moon served as my light, beautiful and illuminating the mountains across the bay.
