Piece description from the artist
My goal in photography is to capture moments in the outdoors that renew our respect for wildlife and wild places. I made this image of sandhill cranes at dawn in a pond in New Mexico on a bitter cold January day. This illustrates that no matter what the season, nature is alive and thriving all around us.
After a career as a photographer and visuals editor in newspapers, I decided to focus on documenting the natural world. I hope my images can not only bring others joy but also create a better understanding of the beauty and life around us.
During my career, my photos have been published in regional and national magazines including National Geographic Traveler, U.S. News & World Report, New Mexico Magazine, Popular Science, and Albuquerque Monthly; and in books and calendars by National Geographic Books, Falcon Press, Rio Nuevo Press, Sierra Press, Landmark, Sierra Club and others.
