Piece description from the artist

Alma had always believed the dead could hear music. That was what she told Destiny the first time they slipped through the rusted gates of Angels Cemetery one October night, the fog crawling low and cold, clinging to their legs like hands. They were fifteen then, strange girls who didn’t fit anywhere except beside each other. Both dancers. Both dreamers. Both in love with things that frightened other people. Destiny laughed when Alma said it. “If they can hear it,” she whispered, brushing her fingers against a headstone slick with dew, “then they can dance with us.” So they brought a little Bluetooth speaker, its light blinking weakly in the dark, and set it on the shoulder of a cracked stone angel whose face had been eaten away by time. Moonlight Serenade played softly through the static. And the girls danced, barefoot, the music gliding through the fog. It became their ritual. Every Friday night. Dancing among the dead. But Angels Cemetery was changing that autumn. The air began to smell different, like damp earth and something sweeter. The graves started to sink, one by one, not collapsing but pulling down, as if something underneath wanted out. Destiny said she heard whispering sometimes when they danced too long. A hush that wasn’t the wind. Names, maybe. Or sighs. Alma only smiled. “They’re singing along,” she said. But her eyes were too wide when she said it. By senior year, the girls were inseparable in a way that made people uncomfortable. Destiny’s mother said Alma’s presence was “draining the light” from her daughter. The teachers said they were obsessed. The night before graduation, they went back to Angels Cemetery one last time. The fog was thick and pale, like milk poured over the stones. The air humming, almost alive. Alma brought candles this time, dozens of them, and placed them in a circle around the angel. When Destiny asked her why, Alma said, “They want us to finish the dance.” The speaker crackled, and though neither of them touched it, Moonlight Serenade began to play. The sound was warped, like a voice calling through water. And as they danced, the fog began to move with them, swirling, rising, forming faint shapes that twisted in rhythm. Destiny felt a hand, cold and strong, brush her back. Alma only laughed. “Don’t stop,” she whispered. “They’re joining in.” The candles went out all at once. Morning came gray and heavy. No one ever saw Alma or Destiny again. The police found their car by the cemetery gates, the trunk still open, the speaker still inside, silent but warm to the touch, like it had been playing all night. Two sets of footprints led into the old part of Angels Cemetery… and none led back out. In the middle of the oldest graves, the ground was soft, newly turned. A small patch of earth pulsed faintly when the wind blew, as though something beneath it was breathing. A week later, the caretaker quit. Said he’d seen two figures moving in the fog near the angel statue, barefoot, hand in hand, their movements slow and graceful. They were smiling, but their eyes were empty. And around them, in the mist, other shadows swayed — hundreds of them, keeping time to music that wasn’t there. He swore that when he turned to leave, he heard it: the faint echo of Moonlight Serenade, distorted and far away. And behind it, two voices whispering together. “The dance never ends.”

About Alicia Lopez

About Alicia Lopez:

"Art is more than a mere snapshot of time; it's a window into the fleeting beauty of a specific moment, a chance to capture the perfect harmony that exists within it."

Alicia Lopez, an American painter, has brought this philosophy to life through her bold and evocative works. Having exhibited widely in both solo and group shows across the United States and Mexico, her artistic journey began in childhood. As a young girl, she would set up imaginary exhibitions for her mother, her first and most steadfast supporter.

"Without the beautiful angel God assigned me as a mom, I wouldn’t be who I am. All I am and will ever be is thanks to her. She is the strongest, kindest, and most lovable human being you will ever meet!" Alicia says, her voice brimming with love.

Her mother’s encouragement laid the foundation for Alicia's passionate pursuit of art, and this deep-rooted sense of gratitude continues to fuel her work. Each of Alicia’s paintings is more than just a visual experience it’s a story. A narrative born from her desire to transform the world into a beautiful, peaceful dream. Her art seamlessly blends the realms of imagination and nature, inviting viewers to embrace the boundless beauty of the world around them.

"Without imagination, I wouldn't have created 80% of my artworks."

A true free spirit, Alicia refuses to be confined by any particular style. She considers herself an artist with no boundaries, a creator who works without limitations or rules. Her paintings often evoke the silent yet powerful forces of nature, each brushstroke a testament to her unrestricted creative process. While she works in both oils and acrylics, Alicia particularly favors acrylics for their versatility and fast-drying properties, which allow her to experiment and evolve without delay.

"I love to create freely without limitations or impossibilities. The best thing about art is there's no limitations."

Over the years, Alicia has built a devoted following and earned widespread recognition in the art world, expanding her reach to international audiences. Her solo exhibitions and collaborations have garnered critical acclaim, further solidifying her place in the global art scene.

"Success to me is the ability to create and love what you do. What seals it all together is having others love what you made with so much passion."

Alicia Lopez’s art is a reflection of her unyielding spirit—an invitation to experience the world through the eyes of someone who believes that imagination and nature hold the key to a life of limitless possibilities. For Alicia, every canvas tells a story, a story driven by an insatiable desire to make the world a more beautiful, peaceful place. Her paintings are more than works of art; they are an embrace of nature’s most stunning contradictions: the gentle and the fierce, the quiet and the loud, the seen and the unseen. Through her eyes, the world unfolds as a living, breathing dream, and she shares that dream with anyone willing to listen.
