Dandelion against blue sky

Dandelion Against Blue Sky

Piece description from the artist

I was standing outside my house, talking to a neighbor, and fiddling as per usual and happened to pick up a dandelion. I have tried, many times, to get a good photograph of a dandelion because they are really beautiful and have such an interesting structure, but hadn't had any success. While standing there, it occurred to me that the trick, for me, was going to be to remove some of the bits at the front so you can see through to the center. I grabbed my camera, put on a wide lens, found a well-formed dandelion, plucked away some of the seeds, held it up to the sky, and shot it. It's one of my favorite photos and was the product of a two-minute setup!

About Maria Rudolph

Longmont, CO

I was first bitten by the photography bug in high school, when I was lucky enough to be gifted a Nikon camera, a patient teacher, and a fantastic darkroom. My first job as a "Professional Photographer” came shortly thereafter when I was nineteen, working for a Southern California Photo Studio.  I then attended the American Film Institute as a Cinematography Fellow, but, after working in film for a few years and realizing the equipment was bigger than I was, I headed into the world of technology.

Extensive travel over the last decade, however, has allowed me to rediscover my passion for photography and I have been enjoying capturing images from all around the world. Photography provides me with a wonderful way to combine my love for images with technology.
