Dandelion 9

Dandelion

Piece description from the artist

This modernist abstract piece features bright yellow and orange on a black ground, bringing to mind a dandelion in a burst of bloom. The natural world is always inspiring my abstract art. This piece is acrylic on painted 300lb watercolor paper mounted on a cradled wood panel.

About Domenica Brockman

Ithaca, NY

Domenica Brockman’s abstract paintings explore geometry, color, surface and texture. Innovating with encaustic (pigmented wax and resin) on wood, she interrogates the limits of very basic shapes: the circle, the square, the triangle, by creating counterintuitive relationships among shapes.

Born in the U.S. and raised in Africa, she has been influenced by textile craft from around the world. Her work fuses a traditional handmade sensibility with minimalism and nonobjective abstraction.

Domenica studied Fine Arts at Cornell University, and Art Education at the School of Visual Arts. She is co-founder of the Cayuga Arts Collective, a community for artists in the Fingerlakes.
