Custom house tower boston

Custom House Tower, Boston

Piece description from the artist

A pen and ink drawing of the historic Custom House Tower in downtown Boston, Massachusetts. This is hands-down my favorite building in all of Boston. It is the centerpiece of any Boston sky line photo or drawing, because of its history and distinguishing characteristics. Built in 1837, it was, at the time, by far, the tallest building in town. Although it is no longer touching the waterfront, The Custom House Tower was built at the end of the original City docks, to facilitate inspection and registration of cargo. The federal government used the building to collect maritime duties in the age of Boston sailing ships. Today it is part of the Marriott hotel chain, and houses a nest of falcons next to the gargoyles. I tried to take a different perspective in drawing this building, by also incorporating some of the neighboring buildings as well. Enjoy the art.
