Piece description from the artist
A blue hour evening scene looking straight down the center of the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, United States. The bridge crosses over the Mississippi River, connecting Cape Girardeau, Missouri with East Cape Girardeau, Illinois as the last light of day fades into deep blue tones across the sky.
Captured during the calm transition into night, the bridge lights begin to glow, guiding the eye along its cable lines.
Completed in 2004, it replaced the earlier 1929 Cape Girardeau Bridge and now carries U.S. Highway 74 across one of the most important waterways in the United States. It is named in honor of Bill Emerson, a Missouri Congressman who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1981 until his passing in 1996.
This modern cable-stayed bridge is not only a vital transportation link but also a recognizable landmark in the region, famously featured in the 2014 film Gone Girl. This photograph captures its architectural symmetry and quiet beauty during the peaceful blue hour over the Mississippi River.
