Piece description from the artist
I took the reference photo for the sky from a train window on the way to St. Petersburg during a fabulous art oriented trip to Russia in the fall of 2017. I choose the photo of Iowa corn fields in October to go with the late day light and intensity of color.
Marcia graduated magna cum laude with a BFA in graphic design from Miami University of Ohio in 1957. She then studied print making with Mauricio Lasansky at the University of Iowa, receiving an MFA in 1961. For 34 years with her husband she created and ran a small specialized department store in downtown Iowa City. From 1977 to 1999 Marcia worked in many different mediums including watercolor, handmade paper, acrylics, collage and graphite until discovering pastel in 1999.Since then she has worked alternately in pastel landscapes with an emphasis on Iowa farm country and abstract acrylic painting.
