City Sketch 34

Piece description from the artist

Water towers are an iconic sight in NYC. They're slowly disappearing from the rooftops as I attempt to capture them.

These water towers are made from single use plastic shopping bags and thread. I cut up and layer the bags and instead of sketching the water towers, I stitch them on my sewing machine. The collage is then adhered to an archival cradled board, and the edges are painted with acrylic paint.

I enjoy using recycled materials in my artwork. I strive to make them all look like treasures, regardless of their origin. They must be undetectable in my work, transformed into something sophisticated and beautiful.
