Piece description from the artist
Circle of Roses is a mixed media collage work that creates a space for healing, contemplation, & reflection, supported by a continuous and never-ending loop of flowers. The circle is big enough to fit any and all who want to be in it, and can stretch with time and space to hold memories and stories that are dear to us. The gentle fragrance of the surrounding flowers provide us with a sense of calm and serenity as we take a moment to breathe.
Over the past two decades, Jenny has been making art which questions our long held understandings of time, space, energy, and matter. With a focus on visualizing the most lush & ethereal phenomena of the natural world, her collages and drawings are first and foremost celebrations of the ongoing physical and spiritual evolution of our universe. The use of layered antique collage, alongside elements of painting & drawing, provides her the building blocks for studying and illustrating the complexities of what was, what is, and what could be.
Jenny is a 1996 graduate of Bennington College and received her MFA in 2005 from The School of Visual Arts, where she focused on the study of painting, drawing, and collage. Jenny moved to Rhode Island in 2008, and currently works out of an antique & vintage paper filled studio in Providence’s Olneyville neighborhood. Over the past few years, her work has been shown at The Bemis Center for Contemporary Art in Omaha, NE, Drive-by Projects in Watertown, MA, & the Superfine Art Fair in Washington DC. Jenny has also worked with Squam Art Workshops, both as a freelance art instructor and a member of the event support staff, since 2022. In October of 2024, her first book art project debuted on the cover of “These Dark Things-12 New Gothic Tales,” published by Briar Press.
