Piece description from the artist
While hiking the trail to Holeman Spring Canyon Overlook in Canyonlands National Park near Moab, Utah, I came across the striking blooms of a Claret Cup Cactus. The vivid red flowers stood out brilliantly against the rugged desert landscape, a burst of color among the sand, stone, and sparse vegetation. Known scientifically as Echinocereus triglochidiatus, this cactus is also called the Kingcup or Red-Flowered Hedgehog. Despite its sharp spines that demand caution, its blossoms are some of the most beautiful in the desert, perfectly showcasing the resilience and hidden beauty of the plants that thrive in Canyonlands.
