Canyon de Chelly Tseyi Overlook

A stunning afternoon view from Tseyi Overlook (also known as Tsegi Overlook, with Tséyiʼ as the traditional Navajo spelling) in Chinle, Arizona, within Canyon de Chelly National Monument. From this scenic vantage point along the South Rim Drive, Chinle Creek winds through the canyon floor, lined with green trees that contrast beautifully against the surrounding desert. Towering orange cliff walls rise above the valley, showcasing intricate textures, sculpted formations, and shaded alcoves shaped over time.

A unique detail in this image appears in the sky, just the right of this photograph, a faint meteor streaks across the atmosphere, captured during the annual Lyrid Meteor Shower. Spotting one during daylight makes the moment especially rare and memorable.

This landscape is also deeply rooted in history. The canyon was once home to numerous cliff dwellings built by the Ancestral Puebloans between 350 and 1300 A.D. In later years, ancestors of the Hopi used the area seasonally, and the Navajo Nation (Diné) have lived here since the early 1700s, maintaining a continuous and meaningful presence.
