Piece description from the artist
Calm Curiosity was a gift I painted for my parents. They started fly down to Florida every winter from New Jersey about four years ago and are now officially called "Snow Birds". My Mom likes to have a piece of my art for her Christmas card image each year for her huge mailing list. Having been a realtor, she has hundreds of people on her list. I live in Hawaii and I recently started seeing these white egrets landing on my property. They are so graceful and fun to watch circling before they land. One landed right near my little pond where my first lotus flower was blossoming. I painted the bird as a juvenile snowy egret because he was cute with the flowy snowy feathers.
Laura McClanahan's artwork is an exploration of natural patterns. Her main thesis is a study of water forms as a metaphor for thought patterns. Through photography and painting, Laura experiments with abstract imagery inspired by nature and her inner understanding of micro and macro patterns. Her images could be celestial or microscopic, this is her understanding of "as above, so below".
Laura is a graduate of Maryland Institute College of Art with an MFA degree in Studio Art. She uses experimental techniques with color darkroom photograms, video and large format printing. Laura continues to expand her explorations via paintings with resin and gemstones sold at Gemstone Gallery in Frenchtown, NJ. Having moved to the Big Island of Hawaii. She teaches painting classes and performs live painting at festivals and events. Her art installations can be found in local stores, Airbnb's and temple spaces island wide. Her paintings have been exhibited in art fairs in Geoje, South Korea and other international art fairs through her gallery representatives in New York City, USA.
