Piece description from the artist
A rugged, rocky landscape view at the Sliding House Overlook along the South Rim Drive in Canyon de Chelly National Monument near Chinle, Arizona, USA. From this vantage point, a cairn of stacked stones rests on a boulder sitting at the edge of a rock cliff ledge. Beyond it, the canyon walls reveal a striking blend of textures, rugged, weathered formations contrasted with smoother sandstone surfaces shaped over time. Look closely at the sky, and you may notice three meteors streaking across the atmosphere from the annual Lyrid Meteor Shower, a surprising sight to catch in daylight.
Bathed in warm afternoon light, the towering cliffs glow with rich golden tones, emphasizing the depth and intricate patterns of the landscape. While the historic Sliding House Ruin lies nearby, it remains out of view in this scene. Set within the lands of the Navajo Nation, this area holds deep cultural and historical significance. The harmony of light, texture, and heritage creates a reflective and timeless view of this iconic Arizona canyon.
