Piece description from the artist
Hidden beneath the leaves, chrysalis break open. In a flurry of radiant colors, butterflies emerge to dry their wings in the sun. As I painted, I felt the deep blue green framework of the leaves and branches protecting butterfly as she took time to find her wings.
Dorothy Fagan's search for joy inspires her uplifting paintings. Her harmonious blend of gentle pastel and jewel colors help viewers tune in to their colorful nature and the landscape within.
Located at the confluence of fresh and salt water, she paints brackish waters of the Great Chesapeake Bay Watershed at her studio by the pond in Mathews County, Virginia for two decades. In 2012 her first 10' multi-canvas mural, 'Heart' was installed in the lobby of the Camp LeJeune Health Facility in collaboration with Distinctive Art Source.
She holds a B.F.A. from East Carolina University in Printmaking and Painting, and an American Masters Painting Mentorship with Robert Bowers Mayo, Richmond, Virginia.
