Piece description from the artist
In this delicate portrait, Mitchelito uses vivid blues and greens to paint the Barred Surfperch, a local fish found off the coast of California. The diet of the barred surfperch consists predominantly of sand crabs, but this fish is going after a tasty worm!
Mitchelito Orquiola was born on the island of Cebu in the Philippines and immigrated with his family to the United States in 1972.
Orquiola considers himself a student of life and the dynamics of human nature. His education in art and culture began early in childhood with the martial arts and its philosophies, which he continues to train and teach to this present day.In learning how to find internal peace within life's turbulence led him to the exposure and studies of music, literature, languages, and theatre. In practicing these other art forms Mitchelito was introduced to painting. Today, he is a completely self-taught painter with an open creative style and mind.
