Bridge

Bridge

Piece description from the artist

I use conventions and expectations identified with one medium to create work in other mediums while integrating past icons into pieces that have identity as art and as artifact.

Identity is entangled in the conscious and the subconscious. Consciousness is indispensable to human existence and progress. Yet, too, subconscious reaction has power immediately to draw and to hold one rapt. Art bridges the two. It is a sentient realization of being, a connector to thousands of years past, with the immutable capacity to transform.

About Deirdre A. Fox

Chicago, IL

Deirdre Fox loved drawing and creating things as a kid, but a heavy dose of practicality (hers and her parents) won out when she went to college. Deirdre studied materials engineering, the chemistry, physics, and structures of materials at Northwestern University. Eventually, Diedre went back to school to learn more about the possibilities of drawing and other mediums the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She concluded that approaching art from the point of view of process also meant investigating, learning and understanding how things work, as with science, yet with less methodological restriction.

Deirdre was awarded numerous grants, residencies, and was selected as a featured artist for Chicago Artists Month, a Ragdale Foundation Residency, and CAAPs grants.
