Bridal Veil Falls South Dakota Vertical Grayscale

I captured this vertical black and white long-exposure photograph of Bridal Veil Falls on a peaceful spring morning in Spearfish Canyon, nestled in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The trees were beginning to fill out with leaves in the spring season in the canyon, adding beautiful contrast to the rugged cliffs and flowing water.

At 60 feet tall, Bridal Veil Falls is one of the most recognizable waterfalls in the Black Hills and can be easily seen from Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway. Having visited the falls the day before, I was excited to return after a nighttime rain. The extra rainfall had noticeably increased the flow, making the waterfall even more impressive and giving the scene a renewed sense of energy.

Using a long exposure allowed me to capture the movement of the water as it cascaded over the rock face, creating the silky, flowing appearance that makes waterfalls so captivating to photograph. Known for its scenic beauty and frequent wildlife sightings, Bridal Veil Falls remains one of the must-see destinations in Spearfish Canyon. This image captures a memorable morning when the recent rain, vibrant spring foliage, and rushing water came together to create a beautiful Black Hills landscape.
