Piece description from the artist
This is a piece was created during a pivotal moment in my life after my partner had passed away. The title and use of colors and patterns truly reflects the therapy which was my art at this time.
The artwork I make is a lot like me – equal parts careful planning and spontaneous exploration and messiness.
My style I think I haven’t yet felt to be defined. It is riotously colorful and textured, often including drips and raw edges paradoxically layered with carefully rendered subjects. A spirit of experimentation defines my use of materials/medium, sometimes resulting in the collision of meaningful substances into parts of my artwork Incorporating unconventional materials into my work, most often in my commission work, it’s all about making art with a layered story.
My career has been in the advertising industry for the past 23 years. I had gone to Moravian College as a music major where I was surrounded by Art Majors which sparked my interest in painting as a hobby. Leaving Moravian College, I moved back to NYC to attend Marymount Manhattan College as a Dance major. My dance career ended up being short-lived off Broadway due to a knee injury, and then I got my first 9-5 gig in advertising.Throughout my life I have always been tied to exploring being creative, having projects and expressing myself through some medium. After years of not picking up a brush, I started dabbling with Resin as a home improvement project and that kicked off my interest in painting again in 2018. More recently, I dove into painting part-time as an Art Therapy after losing my partner in 2020. I wanted to deal with my grief but I didn't really know what to say, where to even start or how to move forward with the experience that has changed my life forever physically and emotionally. Painting gave me a way to balance the pain and expression that helps me every day in my life. I hope you enjoy it! My studio in the Old City area of Philadelphia, one of my favorite places, and I live with my two French Bulldogs and tabby.
