Piece description from the artist
This photograph features Old Tardy Geyser, a lesser-known geothermal feature in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA. Nestled within pale, silica-rich mineral rock, a clear pool of geothermally heated water shimmers in shades of turquoise and soft blue. Sunlight reflects off the gently rippling surface, revealing the depth of the pool and the intricate mineral textures carved by years of thermal activity.
Old Tardy Geyser is known for its unpredictable and infrequent eruptions, which have shaped the surrounding rock through repeated cycles of heat, water, and mineral deposition. The smooth white formations encasing the pool were created as hot spring water cooled and left behind layers of silica, gradually sculpting the basin over time. This close-up view highlights the delicate yet powerful forces at work beneath Yellowstone’s surface, offering a quiet glimpse into one of the world’s most active geothermal landscapes.
