Piece description from the artist
For a period in the early 2010s, I was making paintings based on "Fordite" after purchasing art from another artist, and researching the origins of the piece
"Fordite" is a happy accident made in automobile factories decades ago, using now outdated painting processes
Layers of paint would accumulate on the tracks/skids where cars were painted, resulting in layered/banded/ psychedelic/agate-like colors, revealed after the masses of paint were removed from the metal tracks and polished
I found the making of these pieces almost meditative, tracing the brushstrokes around each shape a few times reminded me of a Zen garden with rocks and a rake, and the soft nature of the biomorphic shapes added to the effect
I like the color combinations in the piece, as well as the layering
