Piece description from the artist
A large adult bull bison pauses during a dusty back roll in the grasslands of Badlands National Park near Wall, South Dakota. With his powerful body resting sideways on the ground, he lifts his head and looks directly toward me, before going back to rolling around, creating an unforgettable wildlife portrait. The direct gaze adds personality to photograph making it feel as though he was fully aware of his audience.
Rolling in the grass and dirt is a common behavior that helps bison shed loose fur from the winter, discourages insects, and helps maintain their thick coats. As he paused and raised his head, I was able to capture a closer look at his rugged features, shaggy mane, and impressive size against the backdrop of the prairie.
Photographed in the heart of the Badlands, this image highlights both the strength and character of one of North America's most iconic animals. The combination of the bull's commanding presence, curious expression, and natural behavior offers a memorable glimpse into the wild beauty
