Piece description from the artist
A black and white photograph as a young American bison calf stands beside its mother in the open grasslands of Badlands National Park in South Dakota, while mom keeps a watchful eye on me. Even with her baby standing safely at her side, she never seemed to let her attention wander, giving me that unmistakable protective-mom look.
I captured this sweet family moment while watching the buffalo graze and rest in the rugged Badlands landscape. The little calf standing close to its mother made the scene especially endearing, while the mother’s serious expression added a fun reminder that she was keeping a close watch on her surroundings.
Softly blurred grass in the foreground and the rugged rock formations in the distance help draw attention to the pair, creating a peaceful wildlife portrait of a bison mother and her young calf.
