Piece description from the artist
This piece captures Pittsburgh’s Birmingham Bridge stretching across the Monongahela River. Known for its bold steel arches and sweeping view of the city, the bridge reflects both strength and connection. The composition highlights how bridges in Pittsburgh are more than structures—they’re lifelines that link neighborhoods, histories, and communities across the rivers.
Jen Joyce is a Pittsburgh-based emerging artist whose work has been shown in group exhibitions including Art All Night and the Fort Pitt Museum. She has collaborated with local businesses such as Wigle Whiskey (Maltmalt label) and Hotel Monaco. Jen earned her BA in Psychology and Studio Arts from Kent State University and an MA in Art Therapy with a specialization in Counseling from Seton Hill University. She now works full-time as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board-Certified Art Therapist at a local outpatient substance use disorder treatment facility. Deeply inspired by Pittsburgh’s landscape, architecture, and bridges, Jen first began painting as a therapeutic practice and has since developed a distinctive style combining acrylic, ink, and gold leaf on layers of poured resin. Her current work explores acrylic portraits of the city she calls home, resin and ink compositions, and paintings of forest animals.
