Piece description from the artist
I captured this winter scene just before sunrise in the countryside of Ozark, Missouri, as a large flock of birds swept past a snow-covered farm. A lone oak tree stands at the side of the landscape, its branches still heavy with fresh snow, while the birds darted through the sky so quickly that their movement created soft, blurred streaks in the frame. The morning was still fairly dark, with thick clouds muting the dawn light, though a faint hint of orange tried to break through the sky. We hadn’t seen snowfall like this in years, measuring 6.25 inches at my home in January 2023, so I rose early to capture the moment before the wind could strip the fluffy snow from the trees. The birds’ playful motion added a sense of life and energy to this otherwise quiet winter morning.
