Piece description from the artist
This black and white photograph captures a peaceful blue hour scene on the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, USA. Taken from the center of the roadway, a few cars approach in the distance, their headlights glowing against the soft evening light. The sky is a calming hew with a lighter hew lingering in the clouds after sunset. Spanning the Mississippi River, the bridge connects Missouri to East Cape Girardeau, Illinois, carrying Highway 74 across the water. Completed in 2004 to replace the original 1929 bridge, this cable-stay structure was named in honor of Bill Emerson, a longtime Missouri U.S. Representative. The bridge even made a film appearance in the 2014 movie Gone Girl. A quiet and scenic moment on a landmark river crossing.
