Rapids at Big Spring In Mark Twain National Forest, Van Buren, Missouri
At Big Spring in Van Buren, Missouri, rushing rapids swirl and splash around massive rock boulders, creating a dramatic and mesmerizing scene. Standing near the point where the water comes out, I looked out over the stunning, naturally blue-green waters that make this spring so breathtaking. Located in the Ozarks and managed by the U.S. National Park Service, Big Spring forces its way through giant boulders, producing powerful, boil-like rapids. On average, an astonishing 288 million gallons of water flow from the spring each day, earning it the title of the largest spring in the United States. This is truly a natural wonder you have to see in person.
