Piece description from the artist
One of my favorite subjects to photograph are vintage signage from the 1950's and 1960's. This one holds a dear spot in my heart, as it says "Big Sky" in big letters, referring to my favorite home state of Montana. We call Montana Big Sky Country, and this image captures one of those Big Sky moments, as the pink sky and cotton candy clouds of a Montana sunset pass overhead. The western lettering style is also one of my favorite aspects of this old sign. All in all, it is a fantastic retro icon of my western and rural roots.
Annie was born and raised in Montana, growing up on her family's ranch in the beautiful Smith River Valley. Growing up in Montana's wild and beautiful Landscape led to her deep love of nature and all things rural. Annie attended the Art Institute of Colorado and lived in Denver Colorado until the completion of her Interior Design degree in 2002. After working in that field for several years, Annie moved back to Montana and began her own business, focusing on her ever-growing love of photography. She began traveling the backroads and wilderness of Montana and the Rocky Mountain region and selling her photos professionally in galleries, shops, and online. She primarily searches for rural Landscapes, old barns, abandoned farmhouses, and occasionally wildlife she encounters. Her work as been featured in HGTV, Better Homes and Gardens, and featured in three books on emerging artists of the United States. She currently lives in Billings, Montana, and takes several trips during the year to gather new images.
