Piece description from the artist
Before the fall in Prospect Park, Brooklyn.
I walk our dog, Nico, in Prospect Park most mornings. When fall starts to come into its own and the morning light is shimmering, it can be quite an experience. It is a great way to start the day. In this painting, I was trying to capture the way the landscape transitions from the bright colors of fall to the darkness of winter. We have four seasons here in NYC; when does one season start and the next end?
I entitled this piece "Before the Fall" because it is before the leaves fall, at the apex of the fall season. Before also means "in front of" — I am standing here in front of the fall, experiencing it in all its glory through an almost spiritual encounter.
I paint New York City's wild edges – the parks, waterways, and forgotten green spaces where nature persists despite urban pressure.
Based in the Bronx, I'm currently exploring Van Cortlandt Park, one of NYC's largest and wildest parks. My work captures these landscapes in oil, focusing on the moments when light, water, and seasons transform familiar places into something unexpected.
I studied at Carnegie Mellon (BFA) and in England (MA in Arts and Ecology). My paintings are in private collections internationally.
