Bavaria is a state of Germany bordering the states of Baden-Württemberg, Hesse, Thuringia and Saxony, as well as the countries of Austria and the Czech Republic. Its capital and largest city is Munich and other major cities include Nuremberg and Augsburg.
Würzburg is known for romantic, lavish baroque and rococo architecture, particularly the 18th-century Residenz palace. Home to numerous wine bars, cellars and wineries, Würzburg is the center of the Franconian wine country.
The Maibaum (Maypole) is a16th-century tradition celebrated around May 1st to welcome spring, symbolize fertility, and boost community spirit. Celebrations typically include festivals, food, and beer. A tall tree, usually a birch or pine, is adorned with wreaths, ribbons, and regional emblems, then raised in the village square.
Ashland grew up in Southeast Virginia surrounded by lush rural landscapes, great protected swamp lands, national & state parks, the Chesapeake Bay, the Eastern Shore, the breathtaking Skyline Drive & Blue Ridge Mountains, and the inlets & oceans of Virginia & North Carolina.
It was this constant variation in natural beauty that first drew his eye to the camera; that, and the constant joy of capturing life's candid moments on film. Although no particular subject is banned from the lens of Ashland's camera, it is landscapes, cityscapes, wildlife, and nature that truly captures his heart.
