Autumn's Edge

Piece description from the artist

Autumn weather in the Dolomites is hit and miss at best, and for most of my time working on this collection, it was a miss. But if I waited out the rain and wind, the receding gloom revealed incredible scenes like this jagged peak rising from the dark forest, piercing the low clouds.

Although it was cold and rainy, no wind disturbed the scene. Birds weren’t even chirping. Perfect stillness. The cloud cover robbed the world of color, except for the line of larches running up the mountainside — a sharp and vivid orange. These trees’ needles, although they look evergreen, burn bright in the Fall before they drop.

About Scott Wurzel

Arlington, VA

Currently located in Washington, DC, Scott is a native Floridian photographer specializing in landscape photography. His work explores the interplay of light and dark — rejecting the notion that photography is just “painting with light.” He seeks what resides in the contrast — the liminal spaces of the world.

Scott has shot in some of the most beautiful locations in the world, including Iceland and locations throughout the Old World. But some of his most inspiring locations are right at home in America's enchanting National Parks.
