At The Stairs Of Kanarra Falls

It was the perfect time of day to capture this unique view of Kanarra Falls in Kanarraville, Utah, as the waterfall flows beside a metal staircase deep within the narrow walls of Spring Creek Canyon. Warm afternoon sunlight illuminated the sandstone walls with a beautiful orange glow, creating a bold and vibrant landscape.
I photographed the scene from a low vantage point at the base of the staircase, using a long exposure to capture the smooth movement of Kanarra Creek as it cascades through the canyon. This was during the spring season, and I have to say I was pretty proud of both myself and my husband for making our way through water that was only 36°F!

The hike to Kanarra Falls is approximately 4 miles round trip, with much of the route following Kanarra Creek through the canyon. The metal staircase has changed over the years, adding to the evolving character of this popular Utah hiking destination.

For me, the cold water, challenging hike, and effort were completely worth it for the opportunity to stand beneath these towering canyon walls and photograph Kanarra Falls in such beautiful afternoon light.
