Antelope House Overlook Canyon de Chelly Collage

Piece description from the artist

A collage photograph looking down from the edge of the overlook along the North Rim Drive in Canyon de Chelly National Monument, this dramatic view reveals the full scale of the canyon’s towering sandstone walls as they drop into the valley below. Far beneath the rim, the Antelope House ruins rest quietly within a sheltered alcove, appearing small against the vast landscape yet rich with history and meaning. This photo compilation version also includes a closer view of the historic dwellings.

These ancient cliff dwellings, built by the Ancestral Puebloans between the 12th and 13th centuries, were carefully placed for protection, shade, and access to fertile valley land. The contrast between the massive canyon walls, the open valley floor, and the delicate stone structures below highlights both the ingenuity of the people who lived here and the powerful natural forces that shaped this sacred place.
