Piece description from the artist
A group of kayakers in colorful boats drift through the towering cream and orange sandstone walls of Antelope Canyon on Lake Powell in Page, Arizona, United States. This peaceful scene showcases one of the most breathtaking sections of Antelope Canyon, where steep canyon walls rise dramatically above the water and create a hidden passageway accessible only by boat or kayak.
The contrast between the vibrant kayaks and the warm sandstone formations highlights the beauty and scale of this unique waterscape. The paddlers make their way through the waterway which becomes more narrow, offering a perspective of Antelope Canyon that many visitors never get to experience.
This water-filled section of Antelope Canyon became part of Lake Powell following the construction of Glen Canyon Dam on the Colorado River. The creation of the reservoir also led to the establishment of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in 1972, a vast public land destination managed by the National Park Service that attracts millions of visitors each year. At full pool, Lake Powell covers approximately 161,000 acres and stretches across a maze of canyons, side passages, and towering sandstone cliffs.
This photograph captures the adventure and beauty of kayaking through Antelope Canyon, where colorful boats, calm water, and soaring canyon walls come together to create one of the most remarkable scenes in the American Southwest.
