Modern Mandala Title: Alonzo Franklin Herndon AFLIC or Walt Disney Concert Hall & Fracto Cumulus Cloud I
Bart Ross' earliest memory about photography revolves around a trip to Disneyland when he was about 10 years old. He was given a "Kodak Instamatic":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instamatic camera for the trip and from then on he was hooked.
At 18, in the spring of 1974, Bart went to a photography seminar sponsored by the Friends of Photography, in Carmel, CA. There were lectures by Ansel Adams, "Wynn Bullock":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wynn_Bullock, "Brett Weston":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brett_Weston, "Cole Weston":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cole_Weston, and "Minor White":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minor_White, to name a few, and his portfolio review session with photography greats like "Ralph Gibson":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_Gibson were pivotal to his career. This seminar proved historical because it would be among the last public appearances for Wynn Bullock and Minor White, who both passed away shortly thereafter. Bart went on to study at San Francisco State University, where he was further able to develop artistically and personally.
Bart's photographic process is very deliberate and he will sometimes look at a potential photograph for months. He seeks to find the essence of what most would consider mundane and give it a visual perspective.
