Along the Bridle Path, Kennebunkport | ME

Piece description from the artist

Painted en plein air, this piece was a challenge! The combination of changing light, gathering clouds and the rise in tide demanded quick attention to scene capture and smart color choices. Initial tonal sketches and a starting photo enabled reference to the cloud shape, and sea at low tide as the channels soon filled with water and the light grew flat. For me, the time constraints of plein air painting yield a more honest reflection of how I feel about a scene, not confused with making things perfect. It was a great day to paint at this beautiful spot.

About Roy Stever

Easton, NH

Whether en plein air or in the studio, Roy’s paintings are interpretive of composition, color and tone in the style of an impressionist. These elements are accentuated by a distinctive mark, made with knives and various thicknesses of mixed, uncut paint. The works in his portfolio speak to personal experiences. All are painted through observation, from sketches and photos and, in no small part, Roy’s memory.  His simple intention has been to recreate an original moment, pulling the viewer in to what excites the senses most about time in the wild.
