The distinctive leaves of the alder tree, which is native to the Pacific Northwest, are lit up by the bright sun. The sun coming through the leaves adds bright yellow colors into the center of the painting. Pleasing abstract shapes in different shades of green overlap and give the impression of light and shadow dancing in the tree canopy on a summer day.
