Ace Basin Tidal Creek

Piece description from the artist

One of a coordinating pair of square landscapes this painting is a tribute to the raw, ancestral beauty of the ACE Basin, one of the largest untouched wilderness preserves on the Atlantic Coast. Captured in a signature atmospheric impasto style, these works explore the "quiet hour" of the Lowcountry—that fleeting moment where the heavy humidity of the day gives way to a vibrant, glowing dusk.

The composition is anchored by sweeping expanses of olive-toned marsh grass, balanced by a pale cyan blue sky. The focal point of the series is the dramatic, puffy cumulus clouds, which are rendered with the warmth of Venetian Red and soft burnt Sienna. These pigments are layered to create a "glow-from-within" effect, mimicking the way coastal light vibrates at sunset.

About April Moffatt

Summerville, SC

April is heavily influenced by the classical impressionists but strives to bring about elements of expressionism as well into her paintings. She uses color fearlessly and is always striving to "capture the light". April wants her paintings to invoke the feelings of her subjects and especially the wild feelings of being out of doors surrounded by the beauty of nature.
