Piece description from the artist
Beach scene in the tropics with ocean and palm tree.
Watercolor has become an obsession with influences and inspirations such as classic master artists as J.M.W. Turner, Andrew Wyeth, John Singer Sargent, Whistler, Homer, and more. Contemporary masters who are much admired include Thomas Schaller, Roger Whitlock,John Lovett, Joseph Zbukvic, and others. The list could be long, indeed, as there is so much talent out there.
Alex was born in New York City but grew up in DC. She was a research scientist (mathematician, actually) for over 40 years (specializing in Ocean Acoustics over the past 30 plus years). Her art does not seem to reflect this past life at all. Perhaps a good thing…
Alex is an award winning watercolorist and a member of the McLean Project of the Arts (MPA), the McLean Art Society (MAS), the American Watercolor Society (AWC), the Yellow Barn Studio, the Art League of Alexandria, the Washington Project of the Arts (WPA), and the Maryland Federation of Art Society (MFA). She has been a member of the Foundry Gallery of DC since Dec 2013 and was named “Artist of the Week” on the MFA blog for the week of May 12-16, 2014.
Alex is married to photographer Ron Colbroth who is a constant source of enthusiasm, creativity, and encouragement.
Alex's work can be seen at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Washington, DC, at the US embassy in Bridgetown, Barbardos, is in private collections and can be seen regularly at the Torpedo Factory (Alexandria Art League), and at the Circle Gallery (Annapolis, MD).
